A new drinking room by World Class champion Jacko Chang strips back the theatricality of Shanghai nightlife in favour of mid-century rigour and controlled intimacy.

In a city often defined by sensory overload, silence is a luxury. LBT.co, the new Shanghai outpost from 2015 World Class winner Jacko Chang, operates on this frequency. It is a space conceived not as a stage for performance, but as an exercise in controlled intimacy—a "modern drinking room" where the volume is turned down so the details can speak.

The interior is a study in mid-century references filtered through contemporary Shanghai minimalism. The palette is intentionally subdued: polished stone floors and brushed metal surfaces cool the room, while dark timber and deep leather banquettes offer a necessary warmth. It feels composed rather than constructed. The furniture reinforces this rhythm; sculptural wooden chairs and compact tables are arranged to encourage proximity without insistence, blurring the line between solitary respite and discreet social exchange.

Crucially, the bar eschews the high-octane "destination" energy typical of the district. Instead, seating unfolds in layers—high stools for direct engagement with the bartenders, transitioning into low-slung perimeter seating for unhurried, late-night pauses.

The menu mirrors this architectural restraint. Chang’s cocktail programme is restorative rather than assertive. The Teacher Gan arrives as a gin sour layered with chamomile and citrus—botanical, floral, and quietly comforting.

For something more structural, the Heart of Ginger balances tequila with the sharp, precise heat of millet chilli.

Spumoli — A low-ABV spritz of Italian aperitivo and pink grapefruit, lengthened with cold-brew jasmine tea. Bitter, bright, and strictly structural.

App Why — A crisp cider spiked with kaffir lime. A clean, playful palate cleanser.

Jazz Tea — a combination of smoke gin, earl grey tea and amaretto. Bergamot meets almond, creating a balanced, aromatic profile defined by depth rather than weight.

Come Out — Osmanthus & Lychee Floral, rounded, and subtly sweet. A quiet expression of autumn.

Braised - Meat Platter offering is equally stripped back, favouring tactility over technique. Rough-cut, slow-braised meats are cooked to a dark, glossy finish, while the signature fries—indulgent with smoked bacon and cream—provide a textural counterpoint to the clean lines of the drinks list.

Drunken Confessions Chicken — Tender poultry steeped in a subtle alcohol infusion. Unapologetically honest comfort food.

LBT Signature French Fries — Potatoes with smoked bacon and light cream. Familiar, indulgent and restrained.

LBT.co is not trying to be the loudest room in Shanghai. It is built for measured pours, lucid conversation, and the hours when the city finally begins to slow down.
