Conceived as a “jewellery box” on Cotai, MGM COTAI brings architecture, contemporary art and performance into the fabric of the resort experience. Approximately 1,400 rooms and suites are arranged across M Tower, Emerald Tower, Skylofts, Emerald Villa and The Mansion, each with its own degree of scale and privacy.

Over a three-day, two-night stay, Chomp Magazine’s editorial team moved between digital installations, museum-quality art, fire-led dining and live theatre.
We stayed in an Emerald Deluxe Room, a spacious 51 sq m setting with a 3.3m-high ceiling that gives the interior a generous sense of scale. Rosewood tones and restrained furnishings reference the clarity of modern Chinese design, while floor-to-ceiling windows frame Cotai and its fountains.
A walk-in rain shower, separate bathtub and double vanities are set within a marble bathroom. Throughout the room, Emerald Tower amenities and considered detailing create an atmosphere that feels polished without being overly formal.
Grill 58 takes 58°C as its organising idea, translating controlled temperature into a menu shaped by flame, char and smoke. Premium meats and seafood are prepared over wood and charcoal, with technique applied carefully enough to let the character of each ingredient remain clear.
The dining room opens with a sculptural marble bar before extending towards an impressive wine cellar and curated displays of seafood and meat. A custom Himalayan pink salt ageing room places selected cuts and the dry-ageing process on view, making preparation part of the restaurant’s visual identity.

The California Wine Voyage adds a sommelier-led exploration of Cabernet Sauvignon from three established Napa Valley wineries. Spanning more than a century of Californian winemaking, the selection considers how structure, fruit and tannin respond to dry-aged beef and the intensity of woodfire cooking.

Art at MGM COTAI is embedded throughout the property rather than contained within a conventional gallery. More than 300 works bring Chinese and Western perspectives into conversation through modern and contemporary art, heritage craft and digital media.

At The Spectacle, large-scale digital installations turn the resort’s central public space into an evolving visual composition.
A 30-minute private tour offers a closer look at the MGM Chairman’s Collection. Led by a professional docent and available daily between 12pm and 7pm, the route moves between contemporary masterworks, intangible cultural heritage and digital creations by local artists.
M Art Immersion introduces a lighter, self-guided way to navigate the collection. Guests complete two missions by locating and photographing selected works around the hotel before redeeming a limited-edition gift at the Front Office. The format encourages visitors to look more closely at art that might otherwise recede into the scale of the building.
At MGM Theater, Macau 2049 brings the cinematic language of acclaimed director Zhang Yimou to the stage. Created as a residency production, the performance combines Chinese cultural traditions with choreography, digital scenography and advanced theatre technology.

Traditional forms are treated as living material, enlarged and reframed through moving image, sound and immersive stagecraft. Positioned between theatre and digital installation, the production reflects MGM COTAI’s wider approach to culture: heritage is preserved, but never presented as static.
TRIA brings the resort’s spa, fitness and pool facilities together within a garden setting. Alongside its treatment rooms, the wellness complex includes a swimming pool, hydrotherapy jacuzzi, fully equipped Fitness Center and dedicated movement studio.

Seen over the stay, MGM COTAI works as a carefully sequenced experience: a spacious room followed by woodfire dining, a museum-scale collection encountered through the corridors, and an evening of theatre shaped by technology. Its identity lies not in any single attraction, but in the way art, design and performance move through the entire stay.
