riiōn Chiang Mai is a compact hotel and café with a mix of Lanna aesthetics and influences from many interior styles. Located on the side of Chiang Mai Old Town, between Moon Muang Lane 8 and 9, this compact hotel in Chiang Mai faces Chiang Mai Moat, allowing guests to enjoy the view of the moat and the city while sipping speciality coffee or tea.
As guests arrive at the lobby, which also functions as a slow bar café, they are greeted by a counter bar that doubles as a check-in counter. The staff welcomes them with a calm demeanour, hands them their room keys, and offers them the special drink privilege of buy-one-get-one for each guest.
The café/lobby is thoughtfully divided into three distinct parts, each offering a unique experience for guests.
The first part, the entryway, greets guests with a serene and inviting atmosphere. The floor is embellished with a combination of grey tiles and an area designed to resemble a peaceful zen garden adorned with pebbles and stones. Here, guests can unwind and wait at the metal coffee tables, tastefully weighted with red clay bricks, while they await check-in/out, transportation or simply want to enjoy the spectacle of the baristas showcasing their skills.
Moving further into the space, the second part entices guests with a designated working area. A long communal table surrounded by various mismatched chairs offers a welcoming setting for guests to comfortably work, read, or engage in quiet conversation. The space is adorned with a charming wooden cupboard, a vintage-style radio, and a well-stocked bookshelf, creating an atmosphere conducive to productivity and relaxation.
Finally, the third part of the café/lobby provides a tranquil space for relaxation and contemplation. The pristine white wall is a striking backdrop, setting the stage for a serene experience. The space is accented by an artful installation of a tree and a stack of red clay bricks, inviting guests to unwind and immerse themselves in tranquillity on a built-in long stone bench.
The only way to the accommodations, which are on the third and fourth floors, is through the stairs. On the second floor is a pantry equipped with plates, cutlery, a microwave, and a dining table where guests can dine peacefully.
riiōn Chiang Mai provides three accommodation types. These include the namping room, ongtong room and raming/intha.
On the third floor, the namping room is designed with a blend of Nordic-inspired elements and Lanna accents, creating a unique ambience. The room features two generously sized single beds, providing ample space for guests to relax and unwind. Guests can enjoy picturesque views of the surrounding moat and the cityscape while comfortably seated on the built-in bench by the window, further enhancing the overall experience of their stay.
As for the ontong room on the same floor, it is an exquisite fusion of timeless Mid-Century design and intricate Lanna details. This well-appointed room boasts a spacious king-size bed and a tall, slim window that offers a charming glimpse of the neighbourhood. The thoughtful fusion of design elements creates a truly exquisite and tranquil retreat for guests to enjoy during their stay.
The highlight is on the fourth floor where the raming/intha room is located. This room has two bedrooms with a rooftop. The first bedroom, raming, is spacious and offers guests leisure on the lounge sofa to relish the view of the moat and the city through a seamless picture window. The easel corner lets guests appreciate a sketch made by Ratchanon Wongapichat, the owner of riiōn Chiang Mai. The working desk is located in a corner opposite the window, allowing guests to work without disturbance.
The opulent bathroom is a serene retreat, boasting a spacious shower room, a lavish bathtub, and a stunning sunroof. The bathtub is strategically positioned directly beneath the sunroof, offering guests the unique opportunity to luxuriate in natural sunlight while indulging in a morning bubble bath or to revel in the celestial beauty of the starry night sky while soaking in the tub.
To access the second bedroom, intha, guests will ascend a wooden staircase. The bedroom itself is adorned with a luxurious king-size bed, positioned to take advantage of the stunning picture window that offers a breathtaking view of the city skyline. A flat-screen smart TV is also provided for entertainment.
The bedroom offers direct access to the rooftop, which boasts ample space for guests to unwind and revel in the sweeping panoramic views of the vibrant city below. The rooftop also features comfortable seating and a charming ambience perfect for relaxing under the stars.
riiōn Chiang Mai may be a compact hotel, but it is packed with intricate and thoughtful design elements. The hotel offers top-notch facilities, ensuring guests have access to everything they need for a comfortable and enjoyable stay.
