Roma, a restaurant in Khao Yai, has opened for over a decade. Initially, it was a small shop opposite today's location and was founded by Nueng - Warinthip Chanchayasuek and Rome - Chupong Chanchaiyaseuk.
Chomp Magazine took a trip to Khao Yai to visit Roma. We had a small chat with Rome, one of the co-founders, who is intensely passionate about wine. He told us that he had begun to explore wines by himself when living in Canada. He also revealed that having a wine shop in Khao Yai that provided a vast selection for regulars' and travellers' tastes had been one of his dreams.

The restaurant offered us a red. This exceptional wine shared a name with the restaurant. Roma Rosso Poggio le Volpi 2018 from Italy received DOC (Denominazione di Origine Controllata), a certification certifying a wine is produced in a specific area. This wine was made of 3 grapes; Montepulciano, Syrah and Cesanese. After opening, let the wine breathe for about 20 minutes before sipping it. The colour is dark ruby red. The aroma is light and relatively easy to drink. It's pretty bold, very dry, exceptionally smooth and slightly acidic. Riedel's Burgundy glass is a perfect vessel for this wine. Roma Rosso goes well with Thai food and the restaurant's meat dishes.
On the food, the restaurant uses only high-quality ingredients. Vegetables served in Roma are sourced from local farmers from a neighbouring village who grow organic produce, giving customers delicious food made of fresh ingredients and giving back to the community. The restaurant has a variety of food for customers, from Thai to Western food.

Chomp Magazine tried Miang Pla Tu, a local dish with a unique recipe using 30 herbs, including coriander root. Pickled garlic juice is used for briny and garlicky characters. Thai mackerel, or Pla Tu in Thai, is fried until crispy.

Roma Smoked Platter is a plate that makes the whole family smile. It consists of Roma sausage from Buriram province, Northeastern Thailand, a smoked five-hours-hung-on-an-apple-tree Kurobuta pork shop, tenderised duck breast, and juicy chicken wings served with fresh tomato sauce and honey mustard mash.

Roma is quite famous for its pizza. We recommend Roma Deluxe Pizza, a thin-crust pizza with smoked ham, sausage, mushrooms, olives, bell peppers and gooey cheese toppings. The restaurant bakes pizzas in a charcoal oven for a rustic note and flavour.
If customers love Roma's sausages and ham after dining, they can purchase them as souvenirs for themselves and their loved ones. The products can be reheated in a microwave or grill to customers' liking.
