On the 20th of September, The first-ever World's 50 Best Hotels announced a list of best hotels of the year 2023, and Capella Bangkok took the number 10 spot on the list. The hotel is known for its execution in luxury and serenity for those who wish to have a hectic-free experience. Recently, the hotel launched its new chocoholic high tea signature menu, The Chocolate Journey, for guests to take pleasure in at the hotel's Tea Lounge.
This tea lounge in Bangkok is situated in the hotel lobby and adorned with giant yellowish-cream marble tiles and floor-to-ceiling glass windows that allow guests to savour the view of the Chao Phraya River and hotel garden - a perfect scenery for sipping some tea, which the hotel has partnered with Mariage Frères, a prominent French tea brand and The Chocolate Journey, a culinary journey consists of four delicate savouries, freshly baked scones and six chocolate pastries.
The tea selection is quite vast and categorised by the types of tea, from white to black tea. One of the recommended teas is Paris - Bangkok, an exclusive blend of five black teas with sweet aromas of steamed cakes, ripe fruit and spices meticulously made for Capella Bangkok's Tea Lounge only.
After selecting tea, the staff serves guests three savoury dishes. Smoked Tuna and Unagi Brochette with Fig Miso and Ginger is umami and intense. The two fish have different textures and tastes. The ginger gives a kick and brightness to the dish.
Crab, Asparagus Panna Cotta with Hollandaise and Prosciutto is well-balanced. The crab meat is fresh and sweet. It goes very well with the Hollandaise custard and crispy prosciutto.
Cold Smoked Duck Breast with Artichoke, Cranberry, Cocoa Spiced Macaron, Foie Gras and Lavender Jelly is flavourful and multi-textures. The duck isn't gamy and is tender.
After enjoying the savoury dishes, indulge in Tea Lounge's homemade scones and cookies. Both plain and chocolate chip scones pair perfectly with traditional clotted cream and strawberry jam, as well as a chocolate hazelnut spread. The chocolate walnut cookies are rich, buttery, nutty and full of texture.
Staff pushes the pastry trolley for guests and serves six chocolate pastries made from different types of chocolate.
Talukalum 75% is the first pastry made from fruity, tangy and bitter Talukalum cacao from Belize. It comes as a chocolate mouse on spicy sablé with pineapple jam.
The second pastry, Nyangbo 68%, is made from Ghanaian Nyangbo cacao with sweet spices and a hint of vanilla. It is served as a Paris-Brest.
Caramelia 36%, the third pastry, has a rich milky flavour, complemented by salted butter caramel. It's a key ingredient in this scrumptious treat, with caramel sponge, lemon jelly, and peanut crunch.
The fourth pastry is Chiang Mai 70%, used organic chocolate grown in Mae Teang, Chiang Mai. It features delicate floral notes and exotic fruitiness. It's transformed into a financier with cherry jelly and kirsch Chantilly.
Bahibe 46%, the second last pastry, is made from cacao sourced from the Dominican Republic and enhanced with notes of ripe fruits. The chocolate pairs perfectly with the tropical flavours of banana and passionfruit jelly.
Lastly, Raspberry Inspiration is a raspberry-flavoured chocolate that evokes the delightful aroma of homemade raspberry jam. It is complemented by pistachio Chantilly and crunchy sable, providing a nutty softness.
