Discover Gaston, a recently opened French bistro situated on the lower level of the prestigious Grand Hyatt Erawan Bangkok. Upon arrival at the hotel, simply descend the staircase to the lower lobby, and you will find it easily. Look for the Gaston sign on the red wall to locate the entrance.

Gaston stands out from other French counterparts due to its location, creating a darker and more private atmosphere. The restaurant is adorned with colourful lighting and decor that complements the red and earthy tones of the architecture and furniture.

It might come as a surprise, but specific elements of a bistro, such as simple-looking tablecloths and uncomplicated table settings, contribute to a warm and inviting ambience for diners.

Once seated at your table, the staff will bring you a basket of sourdough bread accompanied by a plate of sliced sausage, sliced radish, French butter, and fresh cherry tomatoes from Chiang Mai.

At this French bistro in Bangkok, the entrées section of the menu is separated into two categories: Entrées Froides (cold entrées) and Entrées Chaudes (hot entrées). Chomp would like to start with the Entrées Froides first.

Fromage les fères Marchand
Fromage les fères Marchand

Fromage les fères Marchand, also known as a cheese platter, features a variety of French cheeses, including Tête de Moine, goat cheese, and some hard and semi-hard cheeses. The platter also comes with grapes and dried apricots as accompaniments.

Cappacio de Daurade
Cappacio de Daurade

Cappacio de Daurade is a marinated sea bream with spring onion, lemon, olive oil, croutons and ikura. The dish is sweet, tangy and umami, full of texture. Chomp would say that this dish is bright and refreshing.

oie Gras de Canard au Torchon
Foie Gras de Canard au Torchon

The final dish in this section is Foie Gras de Canard au Torchon. This duck foie gras has a flavourful combination of sweetness, savoury flavours, fat, and herbs. It can be a bit firm, but it pairs perfectly with brioche. For the ultimate experience, make sure to include fig chutney.

Now, it's the time for Entrées Chaudes.

Soupe de Poisson
Soupe de Poisson

French onion soup is a French staple, but why not try Soupe de Poisson? People assume that fish soup is fishy, but French fish soup is different and worth experiencing. Gaston's Soupe de Poisson is made with a variety of fish and aromatic ingredients that are carefully balanced to enhance the natural sweetness of the fish without overwhelming its flavour. To enhance your dining experience, our soup is accompanied by baguette croutons and a rouille sauce.

Escargots à la Bouguignonne

Another standout dish in Entrées Chaudes is Escargots à la Bouguignonne. It features 6 snails seasoned with herbs and butter, resulting in a flavorful and chewy texture.

Confit de Canard Poêlé
Confit de Canard Poêlé

In the Plat Principaux section, we highly recommend trying the Confit de Canard Poêlé dish. The duck is cooked to perfection - crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside. It comes with sautéed mushrooms and smashed baby potatoes as well.

Crème Brûlée

For dessert, the Crème Brûlée is a creamy and smooth delight with perfectly caramelised burnt sugar on top. It has just the right amount of sweetness and is made with real vanilla beans.

If you prefer a fixed menu, check out the La Formule section. It includes a refreshing green salad, a main dish of your preference, unlimited French fries, and a tart of the day.

The main dish choices are Entrecôte Grillée, a grilled 300 grams Australian Black Angus Ribeye; Côtelettes d'Agneau, grilled Australian lamp chops; Gambas Grillées, grilled tiger prawns, and Fillet de Loup de Mer Poêlé, seared sea bass fillets.
