The story began with the now-iconic Sri Trat on Sukhumvit 33, where Eastern Thai cooking found its voice in a language both elegant and soulful. It evolved with Burapa – Eastern Thai Cuisine & Bar on Sukhumvit 11, a train-carriage fantasia that folded travel, nostalgia and regional flavours into a single, cinematic journey. The narrative now unfurls its latest chapter with Sri’s Room — an intimate dining space imagined through the whimsical eyes of the fictional muse Sri Trat, and set against a dreamlike Bangkok of the 1970s and 80s. Nestled within one of Bangkok’s major department stores, the restaurant occupies a standalone space that feels worlds apart.

The design concept revisits Sri Trat’s imagined tailoring shop — part archival memory, part lyrical invention — rendered in reclaimed textures, Sino-Portuguese details and vintage flourishes. The atmosphere is at once nostalgic and contemporary, a room that holds the past lightly while embracing the freedom of reinterpretation.

The à la carte selection spans over 70 dishes, each shaped by the flavours and food memories of Sri Trat’s youth. This is a culinary journey that moves from the East to the capital — an approach that echoes the sensibilities of Wongwich Sripinyo, known as Ack, whose personal taste informs the menu’s blend of heritage and imagination. Traditional notes remain intact, but are reframed with a thoughtful, modern hand. For those seeking a more intimate encounter, Sri’s Table on the second floor offers a seasonal chef’s menu — a relaxed, close-up dining experience that evolves throughout the year. My Sassy opens the journey with a refreshing blend of coconut water and roselle, setting the tone for this ruby-hued drink. It’s softened with honey and rambutan syrup and sharpened with a whisper of citric acid — bright, lightly tropical and quietly flirtatious.

Betel Leaf Bite features a single betel leaf cradles seabass, herbs and a shard of peanut brittle. Lemongrass, mint and cilantro add aromatic lift, while an Eastern spicy sauce ties everything together. Compact, vivid and texturally layered — a perfect palate-awakener.

Soft, coconut-rich pancakes known as Khanom Krok arrive with shrimp, dried curry and shredded coconut, creating a small but memorable interplay of sweet, savoury and spice. A classic reimagined with subtle finesse.

Slow-braised pork belly absorbs the gentle sourness of chamuang leaves, resulting in a dish that is rich, comforting and deeply rooted in Eastern Thai tradition.

Deep-fried tiger prawns arrive crisp and golden, paired with a rich prawn butter and a touch of prawn fat that deepens and amplifies their natural sweetness.

Stir-Fried Chamuang Leaves with Egg and Small Shrimp is a simple dish elevated by the tang of chamuang, the softness of egg and the saline brightness of small shrimp. Everyday flavours, refined with precision.

A warm dumpling filled with sweet banana and served in fresh coconut milk — a gentle, nostalgic finale that recalls the Thai childhood desserts shared across generations.

Sri’s Room extends the legacy of Sri Trat not by repeating its past, but by reframing it through design, memory and imagination. It is a transportive, time-bending homage to Thai heritage — intimate, expressive and unmistakably its own.
