Many have heard of and loved MOTT 32 Hong Kong, a Cantonese restaurant renowned for its crispy and juicy Apple Wood Roasted Peking Duck. Fortunately, fans from Thailand can skip travelling to Hong Kong to taste this famous poultry dish. Instead, MOTT 32 came to Thailand at The Standard Bangkok Mahanakhon, located in the heart of Bangkok.

As soon as you arrive at the hotel lobby, on your right, you'll see a stair that leads you to the restaurant. This restaurant was decorated and designed to look like you're eating in a spacious minimalistic Chinese gazebo surrounded by green. You'll forget that you're even in the heart of Bangkok.

Like in every Chinese restaurant, tea plays an instrumental role. Therefore, they have a variety of Chinese teas for guests to choose from, from something people are familiar with to deluxe Chinese teas. However, if you're not a tea person, at MOTT 32 Bangkok, you can have the brand's tasty classics, such as Hong Kong Ice Tea, Hanami and Forbidden Rose.

The branch's flagship drink, Five Spice Sherry, deserves recognition. This tequila is mixed with Pedro Ximenez, raspberry and five spices and garnished with fresh sage. It's herbaceous, sweet and sour with a little bit of a kick.

Although starter and Dim Sum dishes such as Fish Maw Jelly, Scallop & Prawn Soup Dumplings and Soft Quil Egg & Porn Siu Mai with Black Truffle don't disappoint, but the Crispy Sugar-Coated Barbecue Iberico Pork Bun is the standout starter. The sweetness from the sugar coat balances the salty barbecue Iberico pork. The crust of the bun isn't too flaky to ruin your dress or suit.

Signature Smoked Black Cod is crispy smoked black cod coated with a sweet-salty sauce, and salty Wok-Fried Kale with Dried Shrimp, Minced Pork and Shrimp Paste are some of the main dishes worth mentioning. However, Mott32's Iberico Plum Char Siu is tender. The pork is salty but it is balanced with the sweetness and sourness from the plum sauce. As Chomp Magazine highlighted several dishes made of Iberico, it is necessary to explain why this ingredient is significant.

Iberico comes from the distinctive Black Iberian Pig, a traditional breed of the domestic pig that is native to the Iberian Peninsula. The area is principally divided between Portugal and Spain. This pigs' diet of acorns and elements of the natural forests in these areas impacts the meat directly, giving it a nutty, evocative flavour. They are bred to contain a high fat content. It's a guarantee that the meat is tender. Fun fact about fats is that fats are able to dissolve and concentrate flavour and aroma. Due to Iberico is high in fat content, a dish that is made of it is always delicious for sure.

Finally the star of Mott 32 Bangkok is the Apple Wood Roasted Peking Duck, as mentioned at the beginning. To perfection, the duck was roasted with apple wood for 42 days. The whole duck was served on a cart and cut in a style called Signature Mott 32 Cut in front of you for aesthetics and precision. Some of the key differences are the dips. Mott 32 Peking Duck Dipping Sauce is a combination of sweet black soy sauce, peanut sauce and sesame oil. Another condiment is brown sugar which plays a crucial role because to enhance the flavour of Mott 32's Peking duck, you need to dip it into the brown sugar first.

We hopes that when you think of Cantonese food in Bangkok, you will think of Mott 32 Bangkok!
